James Bond 50th anniversary # CHEERS!

This year the number one movie franchise of the world is turning fifty. Celebrations started in London with a James Bond experience at the Barbican. It is a unique experience showcasing the inside design and style of the Bond Saga since the 1962

What draws us to be faithful and avid followers of the longest running series in the world? I believe that is has to do with the charm and style of James Bond. I know that the Bond girls have somewhat to do with it, but these groups of man that brought to life Ian Fleming’s character, makes us coming back for more.

And that man came. I tried to avoid it for a while but halfway through Casino Royale I gave in!!! Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond!!! How about the new Bond girl? Eva Green is a perfect match for Craig. No Bond girl ever was as intelligent, had fight in her blood and was as astute.

Before Craig we had the pleasure to see other Bond agents in action. In 1954 Barry Nelson played Bond for a CBS television movie. He was a very cool and laughable Bond.  The episode was a rendition of Casino Royale and it is now included on the anniversary DVD set.

From 1962 to 1967 my beloved Sean Connery played agent 007. The Movie was called Dr. No and Connery had style, class, looks and drew millions of fans to the theaters. He also played Bond in From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice.

In 1967 David Niven was casted to play a spoof on James Bond.

In 1969, Australian model George Lazenby was invited to play Bond. His manager tried to talk him out of it as a waste of time.  The movie was called On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It was the one and only time Lazenby played Bond on the big screen.

In 1971, a search for a new Bond got tight. Sean Connery was invited out of 007 retirement and played Bond one more time in Diamonds are Forever. Sean was paid 1.5 million dollars and gor 12.5 per cent of the profits.

From 1973 to 1985 it was Roger Moore’s time to be Bond. I personally think he lacked the spark Connery had. Roger Moore had more of a funny edge when playing the character. He got to be Bond in Live and Let Die; The Man with the Golden Gun; The Spy who Loved Me; Moonracker; For Your Eyes Only; Octopussy and A View to Kill. He now is officially the actor who played Bond more times.

From 1987 to 1989 Timothy Dalton became Bond. He was actually the least popular but the closest Bond in description by Ian Flemming in his books. Due to legal problems, Dalton Left. He participated as Bond in The Living Daylights and License to Kill.

From 1995 to 2002 Welsh Pierce Brosnan took the part. He played Bond in Goldeneye, Tomorrow never Dies, The World is not enough and Die another Day.

From 2006 to 2012 and hopefully beyond, Daniel Craig is officially James Bond. He started with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and now Skyfall. He was even James Bond at the Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony along with the Queen of England.  Thinking about it, the Queen’s Jubilee was on its fifties’ anniversary. What a pair!!!!

Musically speaking, the first song written for Dr. No is the official James Bond theme. Anytime it is heard, our brain automatically knows it is a Bond’s song!!!  A View to Kill by Duran Duran topped the Billboards 100 chart for weeks. It is now to be seen if Adele’s rendition for Skyfall with be up for comparison. We already know that we have the best Bond in place, the best Bond girl … let’s just hope for the song to be the same!!!!
