Cem anos de Vinicius de Moraes! Fundraiser - Infinite While It Lasts

Celebrity chef Porter William Brooks creates a special menu based on the taste of the notorious Brazilian Poet Vinicius de Moraes in New York

Group .BR, New York City’s only Brazilian theater company is pleased to announce its first fundraiser cocktail party. The goal is to raise funds for the group’s new production Infinite While It Lasts, a play based on the life and work of renowned Brazilian artist Vinicius de Moraes. The celebrity chef Porter William Brooks will be hosting the event, which will be held on October 19th from 7pm - 11pm, the date of Vinicius’ actual birthday, at Loft Studio (23 west 35th street).

Porter has created a special gourmet menu for the night: Vinicius, a culinary adventure. Vinicius was more then just a poet — he was also a diplomat, playwright and composer of most of Bossa Nova greatest hits including Girl From Ipanema. All his life experiences will be translated into food, and the cocktail party will highlight ingredients based on Vinicius’ taste. The event will offer a chance to pause and feed your mind, body and soul. Porter is an authority on food, wine, travel and entertaining with style, and currently hosts the hit T.V. series Entertaining People, which reaches 100 million homes weekly.

An auction will also be part of the event, with pieces from well-known Brazilian artists: Renê Nascimento, Alcina Saphira, Antonio Oliveira Filho and Adri Volpi. All donated in support of the cause. The top chef Porter W. Brooks is also participating: a dinner for six food lovers is one item of the auction. For sports fans, Flamengo — the top Brazilian soccer team from Rio de Janeiro — donated an official shirt autographed by their celebrity players!

The event marks the official launch of the logo that celebrates the centennial of Vinicius de Moraes. The evening’s schedule includes the presentation of the only Brazilian musician in Stomp, Marivaldo dos Santos; concert with the Brazilian-American singer Alexia Bomtempo; special participation of Carlos Lyra’s daughter, Kay Lyra (Carlos is the composer of numerous Bossa Nova classics) and theatrical performances inspired by the work of Vinicius de Moraes.

The actual production will be a site-specific mix of music, poetry and physical theater opening in November 13th, with a “house party” environment and Brazilian appetizers and drinks. The company will recreate the world of poetry and passion of Vinicius de Moraes through the actors’ movements.

Fundraising tickets: $130 - open bar with whisky, fig and açaí liqueur and the tradicional caipirinha; special dishes created by Porter William Brooks, like spicy beef puff pastry & tobbaco-legs, chilled jumbo shrimp & melon dredged in.
