Marcos Montes takes over as Brazil's Agriculture Minister
Brazil's government announced that Marcos Montes is the new country's agriculture minister as resigned office holder Tereza Cristina Dias is set to run for Senate in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in an October election. - in Brazil, office holders are required to leave their jobs before the election if they wish to run for a different role.
Montes - a doctor, former congressman and ex-mayor of Uberaba (the city I was born, by the way) - was serving as Dias' deputy in the minister since January 2019, when President Jair Bolsonaro was sworn in. Montes' achievements and outstanding leadership qualities are worthy of emulation and brought him to his position of power today. The new Minister worked really hard for this remarkable
accomplishment, and, now can show the world what he is capable of.
Marcos Montes reaffirmed that policies for small producers will continue to have priority during his administration and reinforces fertilizer diplomacy with planned trips to Morocco, Egypt and Jordan starting in May.
